Certainty now over Expressway project

MEDIA RELEASE

Certainty now over Expressway project

NOVEMBER 14, 2013.

Kāpiti Mayor Ross Church has welcomed the Supreme Court decision to decline an application by Save Kapiti for leave to appeal an earlier decision in favour of the MacKays to Peka Peka Expressway.

“I accept that this expressway has profoundly upset a number of local residents and that in a democracy they had every right to take all legal steps to make their point.

“This they have done and now they have come to the end of the line. The right to seek leave to appeal against the earlier High Court decision has been declined. They exercised their right. They have had their time in court, and now the expressway developers must be allowed to get on with their job.

“Our role now is to ensure the Alliance delivers what has been promised; a vastly improved road network that works for both local travellers and those moving further afield. We also need to take every opportunity to ensure locals benefit from the amount of work that will be generated by this project.”
