Sunday buses for Eastern Bay of Plenty
Sunday buses for Eastern Bay
20 December 2013
Eastern Bay of Plenty people will be able to catch the bus on Sundays this summer.
BayHopper services between Ōhope and Whakatāne and between Whakatāne and Tauranga will operate seven days a week between now and February 2 as part of Bay of Plenty Regional Council’s extended summer services.
Bay of Plenty residents and visitors are being urged to “take a break from driving this summer” and catch a bus.
“This is part of our summer promotion. The Whakatāne to Tauranga run, which is usually a six-day service, gets pretty busy over the summer months and we’re expecting the Sunday service to be well-used,” Bay of Plenty Regional Council Acting Transport Policy Manager Rachel Pinn said.
“We are extending services during the summer throughout the region to encourage more people to use the public transport service – we hope they’ll try it out during their holidays and consider becoming regular bus users.
“Increased use of public transport will help to reduce traffic congestion and the impact vehicles have on the environment.
“Travelling by bus is hassle-free and cheaper than using your own transport,” Mrs Pinn said.
