Police Close Down Out Of Control Party In Christchurch

Large scale disorder - Christchurch - National Alerts

11 PSU staff in full protective equipment and shields closed down a party at 72A Frankleigh Street Spreydon at 2330 hrs on 31/12/13

The occupier of 72A Frankleigh Street requested police assistance to remove party goers after most windows in the house had been smashed by party goers.

Up to 200 persons were at the address and police had numerous glass bottles thrown at them while they dispersed the crowd.

Two arrests were made for disorderly assembly.

---------------------------------

Police began preventative measures around 9pm in the Barrington/Frankleigh Street area to try and discourage party goers. 6 AIONS were issued.

PSU placed an OP on the address for some 50 minutes to try and gather enough evidence to gain entry. This was unsuccessful and it wasn’t until the occupier called that were were able to clear the address.

Overall some dozen calls for minor disorder were called in for this address.

--------------------------------

Evidence gained from a party goer established that there was a high potential for missiles to be thrown with the backyard covered in empty glass bottles. The previous week police also closed this address down and had a large amount of glass thrown at them.

This gave us good cause to wear our full protective equipment which worked very well. No staff received injuries. I am confident that no complaints about police actions will be received.
