"Injury accident on SH1 - Manakau, horowhenua -
Emergency Services are on the scene of a motor
vehicle crash on SH1 near Manakau in the Horowhenua area.
This was reported to police at 4.20pm A bus has hit a
motorcycle on the over bridge that crosses the railway line.
This is near Whakahoro Road.
The motorcyclists has been
very lucky to survive and has received moderate injuries to
his lower back and lacerations to his body. There are no
reports of anyone on the bus being injured.
There will be
significant delays as emergency services deal with the crash
scene. There are no diversions available due to the
location and it is hoped to at least have both lanes open
within the next 10minutes. The bus is a commercial bus but
it is unknown which direction it was travelling or how many
passengers are on

The news that a New Zealand citizen was killed last November in a US drone attack in Yemen brings the drones controversy closer to home.
To the US, drones are a legitimate response to the threat posed by the al Qaeda organisation and its franchisees... To the US, the drones carry the added advantage of not putting US troops at risk on the ground, and minimises the need for putting them in large numbers in bases in the countries concerned, always a politically sensitive point.
The counter-argument, well articulated by security analyst Paul Buchanan on RNZ this morning, is that this particular drone attack can be said to amount to an extra-judicial execution of a New Zealand citizen by one of our military allies, in circumstances where the person concerned posed no threat to New Zealand’s domestic security.
