Work on storm damaged trees nearly complete

Work attending to trees along roads and within reserves that were damaged during recent storms should be completed by early next week.

Horowhenua District Council contractors have been working through the remaining damaged trees since the storms on Thursday 17 April and Tuesday 22 April.

However, both Waiopehu and Prouse Bush reserves in Levin will remain closed for up to two weeks for health and safety reasons, due to a large number of trees being damaged near the walkways.

Parks and Leisure Manager Duncan de Burgh says the public are asked not to enter these reserves for their own safety while emergency work is being undertaken.

Mr de Burgh says that next week contractors will start repair work on the berms which have been damaged by fallen trees.

He says if residents notice any large branches hanging in trees or any other tree issues in public areas, please contact the Council on 06 366 0999.
