Fire in Kumeu contained
A fire near Old North Road, Kumeu is creating significant amounts of smoke this morning, hampered by light wind conditions preventing the smoke from dispersing naturally.
The fire has been contained, with Auckland Rural Fire and the NZ Fire Service now working to extinguish it completely using suppressants, water tankers and machinery.
“We request that the public stay away from the area if possible; there’s poor visibility and people are reporting the effects of the smoke,” says Bryan Cartelle, Principal Rural Fire Officer.
“People sensitive to smoke should stay indoors if they are able to and close their windows and doors”.
The fire crew expects the smoke will clear and the fire will be extinguished this afternoon.
There have been no reports of damage to property.
The fire was reported at 7.46am this morning and crews were at the site shortly after, where they will remain until the fire is out.
