One dead after crash on motorsport track

A man has died after a crash at the Taupo Motorsport Park this afternoon.
The crash occurred shortly after 1pm when a Ferrari 360 Spider travelling around the track collided at high speed with a wall of tyres. The driver of the vehicle, a man from Hawke's Bay died following the crash. A male passenger in the vehicle was unhurt.
The Police Serious Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the crash on behalf of the Coroner.
No further information will be released about the man who died until family members have been advised and a formal identification has been carried out.
