opens SH1 to 4WD and freight vehicles
The NZ Transport Agency has opened a detour at the Kowai
River near Leithfield, in North Canterbury, re-opening State
Highway 1 to four-wheel drives and freight vehicles.
Transport Agency’s Performance Manager Pete Connors says
the highway remains closed to all cars travelling from
Waikuku to Amberley and there is no suitable
“Manned road blocks will remain overnight and if
flood waters recede, the highway will be re-opened.”

There had been a fortnight of fevered buildup. Yet here we are in the aftermath of the February 28 showdown between the new Syriza government in Greece and the European Union “troika” and… no-one seems entirely sure what happened. Did the asteroid miss Earth?
It seems to have. The EU still exists. Syriza is now claiming a victory of sorts. It doesn’t help that the only people who do appear to be sure (the Greeks buckled) are claiming the exact opposite to what the other group (the Greeks won!) are saying.
