Early childhood education at Wellington Zoo

Early childhood education at Wellington Zoo off to a Wild Start

Wild Start,

Wellington Zoo’s new early childhood programme, started with a roar this Friday 25 July.

Designed for children aged 18 months – 3 years, Wild Start is exclusively available to Wellington Zoo Crew members, and utilises play-based and interactive learning sessions to help toddlers celebrate the wonder of animals.

“Wild Start is a newly developed learning programme that we’re really proud of. It’s important to connect kids with animals from an early age, and this programme is all about encouraging young children to explore the natural world around them,” said Lynn Allan, Wellington Zoo Learning Manager.

Led by Zoo Educators, each Wild Start session is unique. Activities in Term 3 include meeting and touching some of Wellington Zoo’s special contact animals, helping to prepare animal enrichment, and participating in nature-based story-telling, music and dancing.

For more information about Wild Start in Term 4, email zooevents@wellingtonzoo.com or call 04 384 3692.
