Arson charge after fire at Electoral Commission


A 28 year old female has been arrested and charged with the arson after a fire at the Electoral Commission which occured on 15 July 2014. The alleged arson was set in an unused kitchen area on one of the floors of Sovereign House used by the Electoral Commission. The fire caused moderate damage to the kitchen and activated the sprinkler system causing further damage.

A number of businesses were affected by the fire and subsequent evacuation of the building and Police would like to reassure building occupiers that no other people are sought in relation to the arson. The arrested female will appear in the Wellington District Court today.
