Search warrant results in meth seizure

Search warrant results in meth seizure

A search warrant executed at an Ashhurst property this morning has led to the seizure of a significant quantity of methamphetamine.

Officers from the Manawatu CIB carried out the search warrant with support from the Armed Offenders Squad (AOS).

Two men, a woman, and a child were located at the property and during the course of the warrant a vehicle drove onto the property and the male driver who was the sole occupant of the vehicle entered the house. The man was approached by officers and became obstructive and violent and was subsequently arrested.

Detective Sergeant Dave Thompson of the Manawatu CIB says: "As a result of this arrest a bag the man was carrying was searched and approximately 3 ounces of methamphetamine was located and seized. This significant amount of methamphetamine will not be sold on to cause harm in our communities."

Drug utensils and two rifles were also seized as part of the search.

A 34-year-old Palmerston North man has been charged with possession of methamphetamine for supply and obstruction and he will appear in the Palmerston North District Court this afternoon. Charges are pending against another Palmerston North man aged 33.

"As part of our continuing preventative strategy to crush methamphetamine distribution and organised crime, this seizure is not only a success for us but for the entire community. We are committed to apprehending and holding those to account who benefit from organised crime," says Detective Sergeant Thompson.

If you have information about drug manufacture or supply rings please call your local Police Station. Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
