Police investigate cluster of fires in Christchurch

Canterbury, 12 August 2014 - Christchurch police are investigating a cluster of fires that occurred in the Avonside area in the early hours this morning.

The fires occurred between 0430 and 0715 and were attended by the Fire Brigade and the Police. Two fires were in unoccupied houses, another was in a garage adjacent to a vacant property and the fourth was a vegetation fire.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Stewart said police are seeking information from the public about any suspicious activity or persons seen in the Avonside Drive, Keller Street and Retreat Road area this morning. Police are also interested in any information about a van seen in the area around the time of the fires.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Christchurch police on (03) 3637400.

Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
