Last call for coastal plan input

Last call for coastal plan input

19 August 2014

Public submissions on the Proposed Bay of Plenty Regional Coastal Environment Plan close at 4pm this Friday 22 August.

The Proposed Plan includes new rules for mangrove removal, aquaculture and sewage discharge from boats. It also contains new policies for managing tsunami risk and identifies four new Harbour Development Zones in the Tauranga Harbour.

Bay of Plenty Regional Council Strategy General Manager Fiona McTavish said that approximately 20 submissions have been received so far.

“Anyone that’s involved in protecting or using natural areas in the coastal environment should take a look at the Plan. We expect to receive many more submissions before the end of the week, especially on the coastal hazards, biodiversity, mangrove and landscape mapping sections of the plan,” she said.

The Proposed Plan & submission information is available at www.boprc.govt.nz/coastalplan or from Regional Council offices, public libraries, district and city council offices in the region.
