Wellington Youth Council Launches Video Competition

Wellington Youth Council Launches Video Competition For Their Peers

Wellington’s Youth Council is launching an exciting new video competition this week aimed at giving young people the opportunity to show the Capital through their eyes.

The project is aimed at getting young Wellingtonians participating and engaged with their city by submitting one minute videos focussed on an activity or place of interest in their community – this could be at a skate board park, a music performance, a sports event, a hangi, a school show, pretty much anything goes according to the Youth Council’s Deputy Chair, Sean Johnson.

“We want other young people to show what their Wellington looks like, because it will be substantially different from an older person’s perspective,” says Sean. “Show us why your Wellington is important and how your perspective might be different from others, what parts of the city or your communities have the biggest influence on you, and how do you influence them. Show us your perspective and take a few risks – let your thoughts make a change.”

Two prizes are being offered, with the winner of the Judges’ Choice getting $450 and a tour of the Park Road Post Production facility. The winner of the People’s Choice gets $450, and there are lots of spot prizes up for grabs too.

The top videos will be posted on YouTube and the Youth Council’s Facebook page, and the prizes will be awarded by the Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown at a special ceremony.

The competition launches on Friday 19 September and closes on Sunday 12 October, is open to Wellington residents aged 25 and under, and of course there are terms and conditions that apply, so check out www.filmwelly.com for all you need to know.

The Youth Council is the voice of youth at the Wellington City Council. It has 20 members, aged between 14 and 24, interested parties need to go through an application process and if successful are appointed for year-long terms.
