Police seek public help after woman's terrifying ordeal

Waitakere Police are appealing to the public for information about a home invasion on the night of Sunday 7 September (Father's Day) in Glengarry Road, Glen Eden.

At around 11.50pm a woman awoke to find a man standing over her baby's cot. He had opened an unlocked ranch slider and entered the room that they were both sleeping in.

She confronted him and was punched around the head and face. The offender then fled and ran towards Parrs Park on West Coast Road. Police were called however despite searching by frontline officers and a Police dog unit, the offender could not be found.

The victim was left with severe facial bruising, including two black eyes.

The offender is described as being of medium to solid build. He was wearing a hoodie and smelt heavily of alcohol and cigarettes.

Detective Derek Elima, Waitakere Police says "This was a very frightening experience for the victim, in the place where everyone should expect to feel safe. We're obviously very keen to catch this man as soon as possible."

"This man may have been drinking somewhere in the area prior to this attack. It was the sunday night of Father's Day that this happened and if you were in the Glen Eden area, we'd ask that you think back and recall if you saw someone fitting this description" he says.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Elima on 09 839 0600 or email derek.elima@police.govt.nz (link sends e-mail)

Information can also be given anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
