Slide has slowed, danger diminished

The Landslide that threatened 3 houses on Hill Road has slowed considerably according to EQC Geotechnical experts onsite.

Owners of the 3 houses, that were declared dangerous and vacated over the weekend, have lodged claims with the Earthquake Commission.

EQC are now in control of stabilising and investigating the site with their geotechnical engineers.

Gisborne District Council Building Consents and Resource Manager Ian Petty has been updated by contractors onsite, who are monitoring land movement from several survey spots on the hill. The subsidence is dramatically less than it was over the weekend.

“A horizontal drain has been drilled underneath the lower house to assist in stopping further movement,” says Ian Petty.

Council has been in regular contact with the owners since early last Saturday and are preparing to assist them and EQC with any future regulatory advice.

The event has been a tragedy for the families involved and Council asks the public to respect the privacy of the owners and avoid going into the area.
