Warning to city motorists - oil spill on roads

Release date:

Warning to city motorists oil spill on roads

A large amount of an oily substance has spilled onto city roads causing concern for potential motor accidents.

Council have been notified of the spill that may have come from a 200litre drum being transported from Stanley road through city streets to Riverside and Goodwin Roads.

Council asks motorist to be wary travelling on Stanley, Childers, Palmerston and Ormond Roads, and connections between on Grey St, Fitzherbert and Stafford Streets.

The spill crosses the roundabout by the town clock, is highly visible but also extremely slick, contractors are putting up hazard signs now but motorists may be at risk of accidents.

Contractors are containing the spill with an absorbent material, which has stopped any of the greasy fluid from entering stormwater drains says a Council spokesperson.

The grit will then be swept up and aims to be cleared by the end of the day.

The public are asked to take care on city roads and be patient with the clean up.
