Crime drop a credit to police

Further falls in recorded crime for 2013/2014 are a credit to police across the country, Police Association President Greg O’Connor said today.

“The Police Association welcomes the reduction in overall crime figures. The 3.2% drop in recorded crime is a figure that police staff can be proud of,” Mr O’Connor said.

“Police officers have welcomed the ability to deal with breaches of the liquor ban through the use of infringement notices, although we note that this has contributed to the reduction in offences as infringements are not recorded in official crime statistics.

“Policing is a team effort, and these results are a huge credit to the hard work of all police officers and support staff, despite the resource pressures on them. Nevertheless, confirmation of continued record-low crime rates is pleasing at a time when police are under pressure to continue to cut crime while operating within a tight budget,” Mr O’Connor said.
