Water supplies gain best-ever compliance results

Horowhenua District Council's water supplies gain best-ever compliance results

Horowhenua District Council's water supplies to Foxton Beach, Foxton and Shannon have just received their best-ever results for compliance with the Drinking Water Standards for New Zealand.

MidCentral Health's Public Health Services Drinking Water Assessor Peter Wood has just released a report of Council's water supplies to Foxton, Foxton Beach, Levin, Shannon and Tokomaru for the period 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014.

For the first time ever, the Foxton Beach supply was compliant with all aspects of the Drinking Water Standards for the full 12 months, while the Foxton and Shannon supplies were compliant for half of that period. This follows upgrades to all three water supplies between 2012 and 2014.

"This is the best compliance result Horowhenua District Council has ever achieved and the Council is to be commended for these improvements," Peter Wood said.

Meanwhile, upgrades to the Tokomaru water supply within the next year and to the Levin supply between now and 2017 should ensure these two supplies also gain full compliance with Drinking Water Standards.

Horowhenua District Council Chief Executive David Clapperton says the results are evidence of efforts to take Council's products and operations from "good to great" for the benefit of customers.

"It is testament to the excellent work that our Water Services Manager Sarah Stephen and contractors Downer have put in to improve the quality of the water provided to our communities throughout the District," Mr Clapperton said.

"It also is starting to show the benefits of Council commitment to investing in our water infrastructure and that, despite limited resources, we are improving. This is key."
