Dog Responsible for Attack Euthanized

The dog which attacked its owner at her Hamilton home last week has been euthanized.

Kelvin Powell, Hamilton City Council’s City Safe Manager, says the animal’s owner agreed to have the dog euthanized after Animal Control staff removed the dog from her Avalon Drive property after the attack.

“This has been a difficult time for the owner of the dog. While recovering from her injuries, she’s had an opportunity to talk to our staff, and understands this outcome is the most appropriate way to resolve the issue,” Mr Powell says.

Mr Powell says with the owner agreeing to have the dog euthanized, Council will not be pursuing charges under the Dog Control Act and considers the matter closed.
