Postponement of Greville Road weekend works

The NZ Transport Agency is postponing the second weekend of works at the Greville Road interchange on Auckland’s Northern Motorway (State Highway 1), set to start this Friday (17 October) due to wet weather.

The closure was to start from 9pm and continue until 5am Monday (20 October), however wet weather forecast this weekend has delayed this work until the next available weekend, currently set for Saturday and Sunday 1-2 November.

“We decided to make the decision now to postpone the closure to avoid any last minute confusion for drivers and local businesses,” says the Transport Agency’s Highway Manager Brett Gliddon. “We were really hoping to get the rest of the work completed this weekend, however the weather is not playing its part and we’ll move the work a few weeks back, after Labour Day Weekend.”

The interchange needs to be closed because of work related to the Transport Agency’s Upper Harbour Highway to Greville Road Northbound 3 Laning project – a series of improvements to both the motorway and local roads.

The project is constructing an additional northbound lane on SH1 between the Upper Harbour Highway and Greville Road interchanges, and switching the Greville Road/Tawa Drive/Albany Expressway roundabout into a fully signalised intersection. It is widening the southbound lane on the Albany Expressway from 1 to 2 lanes, and there will also be a new shared walking and cycling path along both Greville Road and the Albany Expressway.
