Last chance to have your say on council decision-making process

Aucklanders are being urged to take part in a consultation that will help decide how the council makes important decisions, before time runs out this week.

The council’s Significance and Engagement policy consultation, which opened in September, aims to discover what level of involvement Aucklanders want when the council makes important decisions.

The consultation closes on Sunday 19 October, and has received praise from youth and community groups for its flexible approach to engagement, using events and digital tools rather than formal submissions and hearings.

Some of the feedback received so far includes suggestions to:

· promote Shape Auckland more widely to the community
· provide more email notification of information and ways to give feedback
· work with schools to help encourage youth to get involved
· provide interpreters and translations for communities where English is not their first language
· the importance of the council having good relationships with community leaders and groups.
Councillor George Wood, Chairperson of the Regional Strategy and Policy committee, says that Aucklanders should make sure they don’t miss out on the chance to have their say.

“This policy will have a big impact on how we engage with Aucklanders on key decisions, and with time running out before submissions close, I’m urging people to make sure they have fed back on the proposal.

“It is a really simple process to provide us with your views so if you haven’t already, make sure that you get online and have your say before the consultation closes this weekend.”
