Police interviewing suspect following incidents at camp site

Tauranga police are dealing with an incident that happened at around 6.00 am this morning at a popular tourist camp site in McLarens Falls, Tauranga.

A male foreign tourist in his late 20’s while sleeping in his van, has been woken by an unknown man who has tried to steal the tourists van.

Following a struggle the offender ran off from the scene.

This same offender returned some 30 minutes later and approached a female foreign tourist, also in her 20’s, and who is unrelated to the first victim.

He demanded the keys to her vehicle, but when she did not comply he stolen some personal items from her before running off.

The two victims, although traumatised were not physically injured this incident. They are receiving counselling from Victim Support.
