Rescue on Mt Tasman

Rescue on Mt Tasman

Wednesday, 22 October 2014 - 2:42pm

Canterbury

Canterbury Police are coordinating a rescue operation on Mt Tasman in Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park after three climbers have become stranded.

Three climbers had climbed up from west coast side of Mt Tasman and reported earlier today that due to ice they could not move from their current location on the North Buttress of Mt Tasman.

The rescue operation is being run by Canterbury Police out of the Aoraki/Mt Cook SAR Base and efforts will be made to undertake a helicopter rescue of the group this afternoon.

The group of climbers can be seen in the photograph included with this release as a black dot near the ridgeline.
