Kerepehi Police shooting

As the investigations into Monday night's incident where a man was wounded after shooting at Police near Kerepehi continue, the Waikato's Police commander says things are progressing enough to allow life for local residents to return back to normal.

Acting Superintendent Greg Nicholls, said the scene examination of the area on SH2 where the shooting took place progressed significantly enough to allow the re-opening of the highway late yesterday afternoon.

"We were aware of the disruption the closure of such a major route posed to transport operators, school bus services and local residents but given the seriousness of Monday night's incident and that it is now the subject of three on-going investigations, it was important to do it once and do it right.

"The latest update on the condition of the 50-year-old male offender at the centre of the investigations is that he is currently in a serious but stable condition in Waikato Hospital's High Dependency Unit."

Mr Nicholls said a forensic examination of the property at Kerepehi linked to Monday night's incident has been completed and the property will be handed back today. "Members of the investigation teams will continue to speak to local residents and witnesses today."
