Chance to ask questions about submitting on the proposed air rules
Invercargill residents will have an opportunity to talk to Environment Southland staff about the proposed new air quality rules and how to make a submission at the Invercargill Library this Tuesday.
The Invercargill session will be held in the upstairs meeting room at the Invercargill Public Library on Tuesday 28 October, between 3pm and 6pm. Those with questions are encouraged to make an appointment by phoning Environment Southland on 0800 76 88 45.
Environment Southland held a session in Gore last week which resource planner Jason Domigan said was well received. “We were able to give residents more information and help them prepare a submission,” he said.
The proposed Air Plan includes rules for home heating and outdoor burning and are required to help Southland meet the Government’s National Environmental Standards for Air Quality (NES). Regional councils are required to take action in the urban areas that are failing to meet the health inspired goals in NES.
The proposed rules are out for consultation until 3 November and the exact form these rules will take won’t be known until the end of that process. People can have an influence on the outcome by having their say and making a submission.
