Friday Night Food Trucks come to Cathedral Square

Friday Night Food Trucks come to Cathedral Square

Food Trucks offering a range of global cuisine options will be open for business in Cathedral Square as part of a five month Friday Night Food Truck trial.

Operating from 4pm–10pm on Friday nights, from 31 October 2014 through to March 2015, the objective is to test the appetite of Cantabrian's for Food Trucks as part of efforts to build back a vibrant, fun and family friendly heart of the Central City.

In cities across Australia, North America, Europe and Asia, Food Trucks add a convenient, informal range of food options for those wanting to explore or re-discover their centres at the end of a busy week or at the start of a long weekend. They attract people who might otherwise not venture into central areas, in turn generating higher levels of foot traffic which has helped to grow ‘the evening economy’.

“Evidence from overseas highlights that Food Trucks can offer spin-off benefits for people and businesses,” says Carolyn Ingles, Urban Design and Regeneration Unit Manager.

“Combined with events and activities throughout the summer months, the Food Trucks offer a reason for people of all ages to come into the Central City and see the way in which Christchurch is being reshaped by the rebuild.”

Come and experience the largest collection of food trucks in Christchurch. Feast on authentic Mexican street food, Sri Lankan finger food, European rotisserie chicken, real fruit ice cream or yoghurt and much, much more.

Come along on Friday 31 October, dressed up to trick or treat yourself to a new street fare experience.
