Making local history accessible
Palmerston North is celebrating its seventh annual Local History Week from the 3rd to 9th November.
City Library research educator Maria Shiva said everyone is welcome to attend the official opening. “It’s at 11am on Monday 3rd November on the Ground Floor at the Central Library.” Maria says the focus of the week is to make local history accessible and to highlight the rich history of Palmerston North and Manawatū.
The popular lunchtime talks will be held from Monday 3rd through to Friday 7th at 12pm. The first speaker is Tim Shoebridge, from the Ministry of Culture and Heritage, speaking on Manawatū’s War Effort during World War l.
Guided walks will take you to various sites of historical interest, including a backstage tour of the Regent Theatre, a visit to the Engineer Corps Memorial Centre at Linton Military Camp and a behind the scenes Collection tour at Te Manawa Museum.
