Methamphetamine seizure an opportunity to seek help

Canterbury Police continue their focus on the people who are involved in the movement of methamphetamine into the South Island.

This week Police seized a significant amount of methamphetamine which they believe was destined for the South Island. On Wednesday (29 October 2014) a 54 year old man appeared in Christchurch District Court charged with Possession of Methamphetamine For Supply.

Following this arrest Police have executed two search warrants in Canterbury with the possibility of more in the future. Police inquiries are ongoing.

Detective Sergeant Darren FOLAU explains “Not only is the seizure significant in size but more importantly it is significant in that the social harm it would create will no longer occur.”

“There will have been people throughout the South Island waiting for this methamphetamine to become available and we’d encourage them to take this as an opportunity to seek help and stop using this harmful drug. “

Canterbury Police have an ongoing Prevention Focus seeking to connect those addicted to methamphetamine, and other drugs, with addiction services. Anyone seeking help or wanting to get help for a family member or friend can contact the Alcohol and Drug Helpline on 0800 787 797, email ada@adanz.org.nz (link sends e-mail) or visit this website www.adictionshelp.org.nz (link is external)

Canterbury Police encourage anyone who can supply information about the people involved in methamphetamine sale or use to contact them on 03 363 7400.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
