Car park closed for Army Parade

The car park between Grey and Bright Street will be closed to public vehicles until 1.00pm this Saturday 8th November.

Ngati Tumatauenga New Zealand Army will be carrying out a Charter Parade through the town centre, using the car park to form up some 200 soldiers, veterans and army vehicles.

“We advise the public to avoid using the car park for the morning, it will be coned off to public vehicles until after the parade.” Says regulatory services manager Sarwan Kumar. “

Soldiers will be marching with drums beating, colours flying, bayonets fixed and swords drawn through the streets of Gisborne.

All ex members of the 7th Battalion are invited to participate in the parade, they are required to meet at the Grey Street car park at 12.45pm on the day.

Public are invited to watch the parade that will march down Gladstone Road, onto Wainui Road, left onto Esplanade, left onto Ormond Road, culminating in a parade in the Rose Garden, outside the Council buildings on Fitzherbert Street.

The Mayor will inspect the parade at the rose garden, where he will issue a new charter to the now 5/7 Battalion Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment.

There will be a military display at the marina car park from 10am - 2pm, for public to come and see some of the new equipment the NZArmy has to offer.

Childers road kerbside car parks are now available again for the public use.
