Temporary closure of Kingsley Street walk and cycle track

Temporary closure of Kingsley Street walk and cycle track

There is a temporary closure to the Kingsley Street walk and cycle track in Stokes Valley, due to earthworks as part of the ongoing development of Silverstream Landfill.

The walk and cycle track can still be accessed normally on Sundays. However, it is closed to the public from Monday to Saturday, effective immediately until February 2015. Warning signs will be in place at each entrance to the track from next week.

Works in the area involve removing fine clay soils. These soils are then used as an important component of the landfill liner systems.

Bruce Sherlock, General Manager City Infrastructure says “the re-use of these fine clay soils is a crucial part of the ongoing development of Silverstream Landfill. It reinforces our commitment to developing and managing the landfill to the highest environmental standards. Silverstream Landfill is one of only a few landfills in the country to be rated “Class A” by the Ministry for the Environment, which is something we’re very proud of”.

There are alternative routes to the affected path, including the popular Horoeka Street Scenic Reserve, which bypasses the section of closed track.
