Representation Review Team Appointed

Representation Review Team Appointed

Dunedin (Friday, 7 November 2014) – An independent review team has been appointed to carry out the Dunedin City Council’s representation review.

The DCC is required by law to carry out the representation review. The review will look at issues such as how we elect Councillors and whether we should have wards or elect ‘at large’ or have a combination of both. It will also look at the role and responsibility of community boards.

The Council this week appointed the following people to the Representation Review Team:

• Associate Professor Janine Hayward - Department of Politics, University of Otago (who will chair the Review Team)

• Len Cook - former Government Statistician

• Paulette Tamati-Elliffe – Programme Leader for Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu Māori

Language Revitalisation Strategy, Kotahi Mano Kāika

• Dave Cull – Mayor of Dunedin

DCC Group Manager Corporate Services Sandy Graham says the next step is for the Review Team to be provided with background information. The group will then meet to decide how it wishes to consult with the various communities of interest.

Once the consultation process is complete, the Review Team will present its recommendations to the Council by July/August 2015.
