At about 1250 hours on 8th of November 2014 Police were advised that a partially submerged 2.4 metre aluminium dinghy was located by a member of the public on the Oreti River, near Invercargill. The 66 year old owner of the boat is missing. A search and rescue operation is ongoing, involving a helicopter, members of the Coast Guard, local fishermen and the Police Search and Rescue Squad members – with the area actively being searched from the air, water and land.
