Police Looking for Witness to Crash

Police Looking for Witness to Crash

Police investigating a serious crash which occurred around midnight on Saturday night, 8 November would like to identify a witness to assist with their inquiries.

A BMW sedan was travelling south on Great South Road and misjudged a corner, resulting in the car hitting a tree on the passenger side. The driver was not thought to be wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle on impact. Three of the passengers received serious injuries and a 17 year old woman was taken to hospital and remains on life support.

Counties Manukau Police Serious Crash Analyst Constable Graham Mako says that it is believed that one of the passengers involved in the crash was observed walking out of a driveway near the scene and got into a silver Mitsubishi Galant or Legnum that was travelling south on Great South Road.

“We’d like to speak to the driver of this silver vehicle as soon as possible to find out a bit more about what they saw and if they spoke to the man who was involved in the crash,” says Constable Mako. “Identifying this person will assist in our investigation and we ask that they come forward as soon as possible.”

The man later returned to the scene. It is not known if he returned in the Mitsubishi or in another vehicle.

Police are also interested to hear from anyone who may have seen a dark coloured BMW travelling at speed around Papakura or Takanini at any time on Saturday night.

Anyone with information can get in touch with Constable Mako on 09 215 4828, or to provide information anonymously contact the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
