Fleeing driver arrested after stand off on rooftop. - Glen Innes - Auckland City"


Police have arrested a man in Glen Innes after he took refuge on the roof of a four storey block of flats shortly after 8am this morning.

At about 8am a police patrol attempted to stop a car in the Parnell area, however the driver failed to stop and drove off at speed.

The police patrol pursued the to Tamaki Drive where the pursuit was abandoned due to the speed and manner of driving of the car.

The car was located a few minutes later at an address in Pilkington Road Glen Innes, and when police approached the driver fled onto the roof of the block of flats and refused to come down. Fire, Ambulance and the Police Negotation Team were called to the address to assist.

After some discussion with police the man agreed to come down of his own accord after about 30 minutes.

He was arrested and is being interviewed by Police.
