Buy local and be in to win this Christmas

An $8,000 prize pack is up for grabs in the Upper Hutt Christmas Shopping Passport promotion.

UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 21 NOV 2014—Three lucky shoppers will have even more reason to celebrate the festive season when the Christmas Shopping Passport promotion is drawn on 19 December. The promotion, run by the Upper Hutt City Council and Upper Hutt city centre retailers, has a prize pool of $8,000 made up of gifts, homewares, electronics, jewellery, and vouchers, all donated by the 44 retailers participating in the promotion.

“We have been overwhelmed by the level of support from our retail community,” says Sarah Garnham, Council’s Retail and Events Coordinator. “Due to the size and value of the prize pool, we will be able to draw three lucky shoppers this year, on 19 December. Upper Hutt offers a great shopping experience and this promotion should be even more reason to shop local this Christmas.”

To enter to win, shoppers collect a stamp for every $20 they spend at participating retailers. These stamps are placed on an official Christmas Shopping Passport. When a passport is full, a shopper can enter the draw to win part of the $8,000 prize, which includes a 40-inch television, DVD player, designer pearls, a 4-person tent, a kids runner-bike, a remote controlled plane, gourmet food baskets, curtains, beauty products and pamper packs, an Ice watch, swing ball set, digital camera, books, gift vouchers, and more. The prize is currently on display in the 100% Newbolds window on Main Street. Entry boxes are placed around the city centre and shoppers can collect their passports from participating stores.

Gordon Campbell: On Dune 2, And Images Of Islam

Depictions of Islam in Western popular culture have rarely been positive, even before 9/11. Five years on from the mosque shootings, this is one of the cultural headwinds that the Muslim community has to battle against. Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik...
