Youth Minister hangs out in Thames

Youth Minister hangs out in Thames

Nikki Kaye, Minister for Youth Affairs, visited Thames on Sunday and took the opportunity to catch up with youth from around the Coromandel at the Thames Youth Centre (TYC) as part of her visit.

The Minister was briefed on the projects being led by youth in the Coromandel including the Thames Youth Forum, SKaR Project, Thames South School's Jacobs Ladder project and the Value 4 Youth project.

"The Minister was very impressed with the joint initiatives between Youth Forum, TYC and SKAR (Strong, Kind and Respectful) and that Thames Youth had many initiatives which are innovative and well thought through," said Thames-Coromandel District Council Chief Executive David Hammond.

During a one-on-one with the Minister and local MP Scott Simpson, facilitated by TYC Committee Members Darian Lunjevich-West and Shayne Hill, youth got a chance to discuss their perspective on the projects and ask the Minister some burning questions.

The Minister also endorsed and encouraged our young people for their leadership abilities which will put them in good stead for their future life.
