New Hastings City Growers Market boasts ‘Kids Grow’ tent

The new Hastings City Growers Market has secured a really fun and interesting mix of growers ready for the launch this Saturday 29th November. This vibrant new urban market will bring together an eclectic mix of local food producers in the middle of Hastings and the opening market promises a party atmosphere and some lively entertainment.

The market will also be home to a permanent free ‘Kids Grow’ Tent. What better way to motivate kids to grow and sell their own produce? From kids keen to sell the fruit from their backyard tree to schools and groups with a veggie patch or garden club, this free selling space is open to anyone under 14 years wanting to sell fruit or vegetables they’ve grown themselves. Susan McDade of Hastings City Business Association said “We hope the ‘Kids Grow’ tent will inspire young people to not only grow their own food but encourage entrepreneurship - taking roadside selling to the next level. Kids wanting a space in the tent can apply through our website www.hastingscitymarkets.co.nz

Also on offer will be some amazing growers like Granny McNabbs heirloom seedlings and live heritage chickens; Kombucha raw probiotic health tonic, made from all organic ingredients and a 2000 year old recipe just over in Puketapu and if you’re keen on growing your own food check out ‘Growitt’ - ready planted portable vegetable gardens complete with worm farm and self-watering system and grow-your-own mushroom buckets from The Te Mata Mushroom Company, who also offer fresh mushrooms in a range of sizes for summer salads and BBQ’s. Ready to eat food and coffee carts will be dotted around the market to satisfy shoppers early morning hunger and caffeine needs.

This all-round affordable community market promises to be a converging of like-minded growers and consumers.
