Celebrating Volunteering on 5 December
Volunteering New Zealand (VNZ) encourages organisations to recognise their volunteer’s invaluable contribution to society and celebrate International Volunteer Day on Friday 5 December.
“Helping to build stronger communities is something that all New Zealanders should be proud of, especially the 1.2 million dedicated volunteers who support worthy kiwi causes every year,” says Vanisa Dhiru, Chief Executive of VNZ.
To celebrate New Zealand volunteers, the theme for International Volunteer Day (IV Day) has been announced as, “Ma tini ma mano ka rapa te whai,” translated by VNZ as, “By many, by thousands, the work will be accomplished”.
Vanisa says, “Volunteers are a vital part of our society, their work is so valuable. It’s really important that we acknowledge volunteers in our community who give their time and dedication to worthy causes and volunteer organisations.”
VNZ has developed a promotional toolkit for organisations to use to celebrate the day. This includes free downloadable social media images, logos, certificate and posters available on www.volunteeringnz.org.nz.
“IV Day is about commemorating the work individual volunteers do and the impact they have on a local, national and international level.”
“Without the ongoing support from thousands of volunteers every year, the community sector wouldn't be able to provide the services they do for communities. With your support, your community can achieve so much more.” says Vanisa.
