Horizons One Plan approved

Horizons One Plan approved

Horizons’ One Plan, a landmark document which has been 10 years in the making, was approved by Horizons Councillors at yesterday’s council meeting.

Approval of the document, which guides resource management decision making in the region, allows the One Plan to become operative on December 19 this year. However, the Proposed One Plan was first notified in 2007 and has been a part of resource management decisions in a transitional phase since then.

Horizons chairman, Bruce Gordon identified the significance of the decision.

“It has been a long journey with some tensions, challenges and learnings and I am proud of what we have achieved,” he said.

“I would like to acknowledge the input and views of the community that have helped Council develop the plan and its implementation, along with the staff and councillors who have been involved throughout this process.

“Horizons will be monitoring the plan as it’s implemented and I am confident that together we have created a plan that will be applied fairly across our community.”

The One Plan is the combined second generation Regional Policy Statement and Regional Plan for the Horizons Region and replaces six operative regional plans and the operative Regional Policy Statement.

The One Plan document will be made available on Horizons’ website within the next two weeks and members of the public can request a USB flash drive of the document. A limited number of hard copies will also be printed.

Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik...
