Secrets of Little Black Book Revealed

Dunedin (Thursday, 27 November 2014) – Little black books are usually for keeping details tucked away, but this one is about getting the news out.

The Little Black Book of Dunedin Business, which is being launched at an event tonight, showcases 60 business people who share their stories of why they choose to do business, work, live, study and invest in Dunedin.

The book, an initiative of the Grow Dunedin Partnership, has been updated from the 2012 version to include a wider range of profiles. The book aims to highlight various innovative sectors, businesses and individuals and encourage others to call Dunedin home.

Dunedin City Council Enterprise Dunedin Director John Christie says, “The people and companies in Dunedin provide the real business and lifestyle stories which inspire others to choose Dunedin as a place to base themselves.

“So many people are unaware of the amazing range of businesses, the incredible things they are achieving and the people behind the scenes. Dunedin’s size, supportive business environment and the lifestyle it offers make it an ideal city to work, live and do business in.

“Dunedin also has an effective and established network of support which businesses can use to build and expand skills and opportunities. We plan to grow business and inward investment and this book will help attract likeminded people to do business in our city.”

Grow Dunedin Partnership Chair Chris Staynes comments, “The partnership that is working to implement Dunedin’s Economic Development Strategy has a vision for Dunedin to be one of the world’s great small cities.

We hope The Little Black Book of Dunedin Business will help people realise what a wide range of innovative and exciting companies and people live here, that they are stimulated by the lifestyle opportunities and the chance to build world class businesses with Dunedin as their base. The Grow Dunedin Partnership continues to provide leadership to enable more innovative businesses to start up, grow and flourish in Dunedin.”

Many of the companies featured have an export focus, which is an important element in Dunedin’s Economic Development Strategy, as these are the businesses that have the potential to increase the number of jobs and raise GDP. Other businesses complement the other themes outlined in the strategy - business vitality, hub for skills and talent, alliances for innovation, linkages beyond borders and compelling destination.

The Grow Dunedin Partnership is comprised of the Dunedin City Council, Ngāi Tahu, the Otago Chamber of Commerce, the Otago Polytechnic, the Otago Southland Employers Association and the University of Otago.
