Three important traffic bylaw changes

Three important traffic bylaw changes

The Hutt City Council Traffic Bylaw 2007 will come into effect on Tuesday 2 December after it was passed at a recent Council meeting. Of particular note are the following three matters the bylaw now addresses:

Advertising vehicles for private sale
Residents will no longer be able to park their vehicles in one spot for more than 24 hours to advertise it for sale.

It is reasonable for residents to advertise their vehicle for sale only if it is being used for day-to-day travel. This allows people the time-honoured tradition of selling their own car but stops them using public roads to advertise their cars for long periods.

Authority to move vehicles for resealing work
Hutt City Council will now have the authority to move vehicles to complete resealing work. As per current practice drivers will be given 24-hours’ notice of resealing work through a flyer on their car.

Before the change to the bylaw, contractors had to work around any cars that remained parked on the street and backtrack to complete the small piece of resealing under their car once it had moved on.

Changes to the bylaw now allow Council to use a tow truck to safely move cars in the way to a location as close to possible to where it was.

Ticketing on time-restricted car parks
Ticketing on time-restricted car parks (P5s-P240s) will resume on Tuesday 2 December.

For the last few months there was an amnesty on ticketing time-restricted parks while Council amended the bylaw, in response to the result of a recent court case. However, that has ended and ticketing will resume.

Depictions of Islam in Western popular culture have rarely been positive, even before 9/11. Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik...
