Library display has the WOW factor

Library display has the WOW factor

The Steampunk'n Thames Arts Festival started with a colourful circus last week and continues this weekend with the Wearable Arts Show on Saturday night.

To get into the spirit of the festival the Thames Library has put up Cassandra Shields' costume from the "Classic Coromandel Summer" section from the 2012 Wearable Arts Show.

This piece was created by the Thames local and was inspired by a classic summer's day in the Coromandel at the beach sitting in the shade of a Pohutukawa tree while reading a book and eating chocolates.

The costume was created using machine embroidered organza leaves, machine embroidered organza seaweed and chocolate wrappers.

This years show features designer Annah Stretton, NZ body artist Mem Bourke and locally infamous Mamma Gin on the judging panel.

The show starts at 7pm and has a range of categories including Kidz Renew-Reuse-Recycle, Staempunk Body Art & Creations, Hat, Hair and Underwear and anything goes.
