Capital set to sparkle

Capital set to sparkle

Wellington will get a festive makeover when Mayor Celia Wade-Brown flicks the switch on the Christmas tree lights at Courtenay Place Park on Monday 1 December at 9pm.

“We’re sharing the good cheer this Christmas with free festive activities for all to enjoy. Visit the new Christmas trees in Midland Park and Courtenay Place, bring the little ones down to the annual Santa Parade and keep an ear out for pop-up carols around the city,” says Mayor Celia Wade-Brown.

Heralding Capital Christmas festivities on Monday evening are the Wellington Brass Band with your favourite carols from 8.30pm.

Capital Christmas includes two new Christmas trees gracing Midland and Courtenay Place Parks.

The Cable Car and entrance to the Wellington Railway Station will be wrapped in a fabulously-festive style. The iconic Oriental Bay Carter Fountain will cascade red and green this Christmas.

Absolutely Positively Wellingtonian, Nick Tansley will be out and about in the CDB with his Pop up Carols Caravan from 4-24 December. There will be pop up singers, acrobats, jugglers, musicians and dancers throughout the city.

Sunday 14 December 2pm is Santa’s Parade featuring all your favourite characters, and of course Santa Clause and his reindeer-led sleigh. The parade takes place along Lambton Quay to Manners Street. Then head down to Frank Kitts Park for Santa’s After Party with the Pop up Carols.

Libraries are getting on board with the 12 Storytimes of Christmas. Kids can dress up in their pyjamas and settle down for Christmas stories, carols and activities at their local library.
