International event in NZ to help Wellington Free Ambulance
International event comes to New Zealand to help Wellington Free Ambulance
Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving, is happening in New Zealand for the first time this year on December 2 and Wellington Free Ambulance is hoping to raise much needed public donations from the event.
“Our target is an ambitious $32,000 in our first #GivingTuesday campaign to help us buy a Lifepak 15 – an essential piece of lifesaving equipment we carry on every ambulance,” says Wellington Free Ambulance CE Diana Crossan.
“We need to buy six of these every year to ensure we have the latest equipment for people who are seriously ill or hurt. We know $32,000 in one day is an ambitious goal, but with the help of the generous Greater Wellington and Wairarapa communities we are hopeful we will reach it.”
#GivingTuesday originated in New York in 2012 to create a day of giving and to celebrate charitable activities that support non-profit organisations. This is the first time it has been held in New Zealand.
Wellington Free Ambulance is organising a special BBQ at their Thorndon Headquarters on #GivingTuesday which will be attended by children from local childcare centres between 10am and 12.00pm.
Cardiac arrest survivor Cliff McLennan of Lower Hutt, will be on BBQ cooking duty from 10am to 11am.
Four months ago, 39 year old Cliff was treated by Wellington Free paramedic Steve Tatau, who turned up to the emergency only to find the patient was his best friend from primary school. Cliff is helping out by getting behind the #Giving Tuesday campaign.
To raise much needed money for Wellington Free Ambulance people are being asked to donate to Wellington Free Ambulance, ask their friends and family to match their donation, or organise office fundraisers.
“Give us your voice! Please tell 3 friends to give to Wellington Free and spread the word about #GivingTuesday. You will be helping raise awareness of the work we do and the ways people can give back to you critical local, and free ambulance service,” Diana Crossan says.
Or you can be UNselfie! Take a pic, tag it #UNselfie and #GivingTuesday and upload to your Instagram, Facebook or Twitter account from now until December 2. Download your #UNselfie template on our website and tell us why you support Wellington Free Ambulance.
