New Christmas Charity Campaign at Stardome

New Christmas Charity Campaign at Stardome

This Christmas, Stardome Observatory and Planetarium is setting its sights on Earth with the inaugural ‘Great Christmas Giveback’.

Embracing the Christmas spirit of giving, Stardome has launced ‘The Great Christmas Giveback’ in December.

This new campaign gives customers the opportunity to see a Stardome show at a discounted price while also supporting two local charities.

By donating an item to Auckland City Mission or SPCA Auckland, Stardome visitors will get into a planetarium show for just $5 in the month of December. The item could be big, small, one item or multiple, something as simple as a jar of jam or a tin of kitten food. By bringing the donation to Stardome tickets will be discounted.

A full list of useful items for these two organisations can be found on the Stardome website.

David Houldsworth, Stardome CEO says “This holiday season we have decided to focus on Earth and those that need assistance during the Christmas period.

“We are pleased to be able to support these community organisations and with the help of our generous visitors, spread some Christmas joy to those in need.”

For many of us, Christmas is a season of good food, gifts and quality time spent with family. However, Auckland City Mission sees a very different Christmas situation. Last year 2,000 guests attended the Mission’s Christmas Lunch, 7,000 families received Christmas presents and 2,945 emergency Christmas food parcels were provided to families and individuals in desperate need.

“Thousands of Auckland families turn to the Mission for help at Christmas. We provide food and presents to let them celebrate Christmas. We are only able to provide this help because of the generosity of Aucklanders who donate presents and food to the Mission. The support of Stardome this Christmas will be invaluable in helping the Mission to meet the demand for our services”, says Diane Robertson, Auckland City Missioner.

Another deserving organisation is SPCA Auckland. As part of the well-known national charity, SPCA Auckland rescues animals in trouble and provides vital medical care, love and shelter. This year-round effort sees thousands of animals rescued from harmful situations. Each year the SPCA Auckland Animal Village in Mangere cares for around 15,000 animals that have been lost, abandoned, injured, or abused.

Rona Booth, Marketing and Fundraising Manager at SPCA says, “The Christmas period is the busiest time of year at SPCA Auckland. We rely on initiatives like this to feed all of the hungry mouths in the village over he festive period. Without the support of organisations like Stardome we wouldn’t be able to protect the thousands of animals that need our help each year”.
