Silo Park Weekly: It's here! (almost)

The countdown is over, and it’s here: the week we’ve all been waiting for; when at the end of the long, stuffy Friday, the time comes to head down to the waterfront for the launch of Silo Park’s summer season at Wynyard Quarter. Grab something to eat and drink from the Silo Market vendors, peruse the stalls for Christmas goodies (you can even pick up a tree!), park up on some grass and breathe in the salty summer vibes while we kick off the biggest, brightest, all-round-bestest summer yet! Join us this Friday 5th December for the launch, culminating in the first Silo Cinema screening of the season with ‘Good Morning Vietnam!’, showing in tribute to the late Robin Williams. Word on the street is Santa might be making an appearance too, so make sure the tiny people in your house come prepared!

By now you’re probably wondering what to treat your taste buds to come Silo Park launch night! There's something to tease and please all palates, from spicy Brazilian BBQ from Aloiso, to Sweet Val’s hand-made, organic pop-up ice-cream parlour and Achos, a very special place whipping up delicious New York-style Chinese buns. Hungry yet? These guys are just the beginning!

Santa and his team of elves have once again decided to flag the cold weather up North and join us for a seaside kiwi Christmas. This year, Mrs Claus is journeying south to the antipodes as well, to help him set up a holiday house in Wynyard Quarter. From Friday 5 December, children of all ages will be able to visit Santa’s incredible customised bach, built into Silo 7 thanks to the awesome team at ASB. Get into the Christmas buzz and bring a present along to help Santa and his team get ready for his big night out on 24 December, when all of the gifts will be delivered to the Auckland City Mission.

You can also get into the giving buzz at Silo Park by helping to decorate the Auckland City Mission Angel Tree at Wynyard Quarter, a magical sight every year. You too can become someone’s angel: donate a gold coin at one of the many collections boxes around the Silo Markets, and you’ll receive a pair of Auckland City Mission angel wings. Attach your wings to the tree with a personal message - in remembrance of loved ones; perhaps, or in tribute to the less fortunate - to participate in a collective effort to raise funds to support the Mission’s Christmas activities.

This Christmas, the Gantry in Silo Park is getting an amazing, community-focused makeover throughout December and January. The Roots Creative Entrepreneurs, a uniquely innovative creative collective, are helping 4500 school kids across twelve Auckland schools create a massive sculptural installation of plastic bottles over the Gantry. Each bottle contains a child’s illustration; the bottles are then woven into sheets and installed in a spectacular wave formation. This is a sustainable installation emphasising life and regeneration - at the end of January the bottles will be recycled to become three even green(er) houses. The Roots team will be hosting free workshops every Friday,Saturday and Sunday in December from the 5th to the 21st, from 10am to 2pm. Open to all generations, this is an exciting and rare chance to witness a creative collaboration from wider Auckland come to life in our Silo Park!

The Food Truck will be rolling from the TV screens to the Silo Park greens this season - bringing their fresh, healthy take on traditional street food along with them.
To celebrate this Friday's Silo Cinema screening of the classic Robin Williams film 'Good Morning Vietnam!' The Food Truck will be serving up a fresh, healthy take on a Vietnamese Bahn Mi Roll.
To win a $25 voucher to spend at The Food Truck this weekend, emailinfo@silopark.co.nz with your favourite Vietnamese dish.

The winner will be drawn Thursday, December 4th at 5pm
