Hydro Slide will be free

3 December 2014

Hydro Slide will be free

Remedial works underway at the Olympic Pool complex are nearing completion and will mean that the therapy pool, toddler’s pool and hydro slide will be open early next week.

Upgraded filtration and piping has been installed and the pools refreshed with paint and shade sails ready for the summer season.

“The upgrades to the therapy pool have now been completed and users will be able to notice the difference in water quality due to the installation of a UV filter and automatic dosing unit that will lower the chloramine levels in the water,” says planning and development group manager Nedine Thatcher-Swann.

Chloramines are the chemicals that created the chlorine smell in the pool previously.

“The health of the water is important, the investment we are making now is important, and I ask for your patience,” says Mayor Meng Foon.

“Initially we had planned for the minor enhancements like re-painting and shade sails for throughout the winter close down months,” says Ms Thatcher-Swann,

“But while scoping for the major redevelopment project, engineers identified these issues which council would rather address now, not only as a part of preparation for the redevelopment but to provide the best equipped, quality facilities for our customers.”

The schedule to complete work and re-open the 33m outdoor pool has been set back due to delays in materials being made available.

“The large outdoor pool was due to be opened in early December but delivery delays has set timing back by approximately two weeks.”

“We realise the timeliness of the upgrades has caused some disappointment to pool users and to try to make up for it we are offering the hydro slide free as well as bouncy castles for the kids and the slip ‘n’ slide available on weekends,” says Ms Thatcher-Swann.

The hydro slide will be free for the duration of the works, the work to open all pools will be completed by 19 December at the latest.
