Riccarton Road bus hub takes another step forward

Riccarton Road bus hub takes another step forward

Council’s Infrastructure, Transport and Environment Committee today recommended that the Council proceed with street works for a bus super stop on Riccarton Road. Its recommendation included the rider that the Council should first sign a lease with the owners of 123-125 Riccarton Road for a passenger waiting lounge, before going ahead with the street works.

This refers to the proposal to site the super stop passenger waiting lounge at 123-125 Riccarton Road on the corner of Division Street and Riccarton Road.

Committee chair Cr Phil Clearwater says he is very optimistic that before autumn the Council will have the bus waiting lounge ready for the public.

“This is a major milestone in developing the new public transport network from the Central bus interchange through Riccarton and Hornby,” says Cr Clearwater. “Consultation has been very thorough and we have heard from many residents and affected people and have taken their views and concerns into account. Given the safety issues raised, I am very pleased that we’re recommending the safest option.”

The proposed street works include changes to the Division Street / Riccarton Road intersection, the Kauri St / Riccarton Roadintersection, and changes along Riccarton Road on both the north and south sides.

The Council has spent almost a year investigating and consulting on possible passenger waiting lounge sites at the Westfieldshopping mall and at 119 Riccarton Road. It will consider the Committee’s recommendations at its meeting on Thursday 11 December.
