Indecent assault - Hamilton - Waikato

Hamilton Police are investigating the indecent assault of a 20 year old woman at the Countdown supermarket carpark on Bridge Street at approximately 8.00 pm on Wednesday the 3rd of December 2014. A man approached the victim at her vehicle which was parked near the centre of the car park.

As she opened the driver's side door he grabbed her from behind.

The victim's dog jumped from the car and bit the offender on his right forearm while the victim managed to kick the man in the groin. The man then fled the scene.

It is not known if he was on foot or left in a vehicle. The man is described as Indian in appearance, of short stature, aged between mid 30's to early 40's. Police would like to speak to any witnesses that may have been in the supermarket carpark at the time of the assault and also to anyone who may know of a man matching the offender's description who has a bite mark on their right forearm and/or is displaying signs of discomfort as a result of being kicked in the groin.

Detective Sergeant Matt Cranshaw of the Hamilton CIB says: "This was an attack with sexual overtones and is of concern to us.

Police are working on identifying the offender through camera footage and hope that members of the public come forward to assist.

We commend the complainant for her swift action and are providing support for her".

Information can be provided to Detective Sergeant Cranshaw of the Hamilton Police on 07 8586200, by calling '111' or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
